A Very Wet and Muddy Start to 2018’s Outdoor Season

2018’s outdoor season got off to a very wet and muddy start at Sywell on on Saturday 31st March. Despite this the Club had a good turn out from members, many of whom helped move all our targets and equipment from John Ashby Sports Hall to the boggy range. Heavy rain accompanied by large pools of water on the field did not put the hardy club off, and once all was off loaded and ready to go – Diane warmed everyone up with a fish and chip lunch. Most welcome. All we can hope for now is a dry spell – which does not seem to be forthcoming at present. Thanks to Diane and all who “mucked in” – literally – and made the day one to remember.

NAC Move Indoors for Winter

JASH10Oct2015

On 10th October NAC started it’s Autumn/Winter 2015 Season at John Ashby Sports Hall. There was a  good turnout and the move went smoothly. A reminder that our indoor shooting times until Spring 2016 are:

  • Saturdays – John Ashby Sports Hall, Moulton College NN3 7SX – 10am to 1pm
  • Tuesdays – Carlsberg Sports and Social Club, Old Towcester Road, Northampton NN4 8DG 7pm to 10pm
  • Thursdays – John Ashby Sports Hall, Moulton College NN3 7SX – 7pm to 10pm
  • BBOB at St. Andrews Road (outdoor venue) open as normal.

We’re Outdoors Again – and a great indoor season we had too.

The indoor season shooting at Moulton College is now over, and it seems to have flown so quickly. 2014-15 was probably one of the most successful winter season’s NAC has ever had, with the John Ashby Sports Hall regularly near to it’s full capacity of archers. All of our competitions have been well attended, and the Robin and Marian end-of-season fun shoot held on 28th March, a Portsmouth round with a twist, resulted in a team of three  of our juniors and just one senior (Alan a Dale’s Dudes), beating our most experienced and veteran (if we dare use the term) shooters. Well done – Bailey, Lizzie, Hazel and Heather – don’t eat your Easter Egg trophies too quickly. The outdoor season starts at noon on Saturday 4th April at Sywell Range, Kettering Road. However shooting on Tuesdays will continue at Carlsberg Sports and Social Club until the lighter evenings arrive. The first outdoor Tuesday session will be on 5th May 2015.

We Have Made A Start!

A group of volunteers attended one evening during the week at the new /  latest venue for the Northampton Archery Club.. Their task was to mark out the field in readiness for the targets being staked to the ground sometime over the weekend..

On Sunday 11th August 2103 another group of volunteers gathered at the Field of Dreams, (Nickname) to begin the work of erecting the first 4 permanently sited targets stands and bosses in the section known as Area 2 on the plan discussed  at the EGM. (A copy of the plan and proposed shooting times are on show at Sywell)

Two more stands are to be made and erected at a later date and a container should be on site during next week.

On completion of the first 4 stand / bosses, I was given the privilege of shooting the first few arrows as a reward for organising the volunteers and making the new stands etc.DSC_0025

May I say a big thank you to all who attended on either of the two visits, some members were good enough to make both dates and the help is really appreciated. Officially you will be notified as and when shooting can start on the site as more work is planned in the shorterm so a “mail shot” should be distributed by our Secretary soon confirming the start date..

Information will be available within the container once it is sited and the running rules must be followed expecially the placement of safety notices prior to any shooting taking place (Notices are required to satisfy the Risk Assessment and information which has been forwarded to Archery GB)

Furthermore on Area 1 a register for “arrows” (number at start versus number at finish) will be available within the container as a lost arrow within the public standing areas will be “critical” and any such lost arrows must be found or reported officially as “lost” to the committee or the site management team or both. We are relying on “trust”with arrows for a lost arrow causing injury to a third party could seriously effect the use of that area.

So once again a big thank you to all who assisted in anyway way with the preparation work . I will add a couple of “shots” to mark the occasion.
