End of Season shoot and move to Moulton

It seems almost impossible that it is this time of year when we move indoors for our shooting. We have however, had a good summer season with favourable weather. Our last session at Sywell on Saturday 4th October was a fun shoot of Archery Crazy Golf led by Mick Lovell who did an excellent job of organizing the affair. The results are here. Wet morning weather gave way to drier weather just especially for the start of the shoot. The enjoyable game was followed by hot dogs and medal presentations for the season’s Target Days – overseen by David Stephens our Deputy-Chair. (results found here). For the first year we have also presented Novice Awards for our  promising and inspiring new archers. These went to Bailey Bridgewater, Hazel Dalley, Triv. McCarlie and Kelly Pearce. Bailey has shot well through the year and has represented NAC at some County Shoots, whilst the enthusiastic  Hazel shot in all four of our target days. Her smiles are a lesson to the older archers who get a bit frustrated when things go wrong. Triv. and Kelly have both progressed really well with their shooting and we wish them well for the up and coming indoor season. Classification badges were awarded to Ryan Boot (2nd Class), Mark Dalley (3rd Class) Pam Joseph (1st Class), Heather Major (1st Class), Triv McCarlie (3rd Class (not present)) and Beryl Tabberner (3rd Class).

And the sun shone down, but we didn’t bake.

NAC held their Annual Open Nationals Tournament at Sywell Range on Sunday 24th August, on a day that turned out to be ideal for Archery – comfortably warm and little wind. The tournaments team,  committee and other members pulled together to make the day go without a hitch and a splendid time was had by the 10 clubs represented at the shoot. Our thanks go to all who prepared for and took part in the competition, and of course our judge for the day, Sylvia Underlin. Sarah Fowler-Jardine undertook the role of Lady Paramount. It looks as if several records were broken at club and county level, but the success of the event was reflected in the positive comments passed on from our guests. The results of the day can be found here .

Summer Target Days have great start

Archers assemble for the Western Target Day

Archers assemble for the Western Target Day

Our outdoor season target days had a great start for 2014 with a Pope Young Round on 31st May, quickly followed by a Western Round Shoot on 7th June. The weather was kind to us on both days and a grand time was had by all.

The Pope Young this year was based on a model in The Archers Magazine, shooting 36 arrows with a point for each arrow on the scoring area of the target face. 23 archers took part, and the winners were David Quemby and Mick Lovell in the adult section (David Q receiving first prize for the best score on the most difficult target). Both had 18 hits. In the Junior section Jacob Lovell managed a great 17 hits narrowly missing an opportunity to beat dad.

The Western Target day was another great shoot for this round of 96 arrows. The weather forecast for the day looked really grim and heavy rain poured down in the morning. At lunchtime the skies started to clear and then sun followed. 28 archers took part, and the day included rounds for our newly qualified beginners. Pete Bond was our judge for the shoot. At least one new County record has been potentially set, and once the results have been verified we are sure any claims will be duly sent off to NCAS. The true score for any archer however, is the amount of enjoyment he or she had on the day. On that basis alone, by the looks of things, everyone scored really well.

2013 Hollowell Have A Go weekend.

This years Hollowell Steam Rally got off to a good start on the Friday when volunteers met at Sywell to load up and take the equipment and errect it at Hollowell. The NAC’s new gazebo can be seen in the picture attached and the weather could not have been better. We were cooking on all sides as we put the equipment together and gallons of sun tan oil was needed. Furthermore the Saturday and Sunday was extremely busy with Have A Go-ers and the volunteers were kept busy on both days. This event is probable our main even and it is local to Northampton. We have raised money for the NAC which will benifit all members as the more income we get the greater the chance is of holding fees at current levels. We are gratefull to all those members who attended and shared the workload as in the heat of the day it was very hard at times.

Pictures are now posted on are webpage within the Gallery section. An e-mail will be circulated by the Chairperson expressing thanks to all who helped at anytime during the 3 day event.

Portsmouth Series Presentations 30th March 2013

Portsmouth Series 2012-13 Award Winners

Proud Trophy Winners of the NAC Portsmouth series 2012-13

The presentation of some great new trophies and medals took place on Saturday 30th March 2013 for the shooters with the best two scores in their classes for the 2012-13 NAC Portsmouth Series. Archers convened to the cafeteria at Moulton College for the ceremony, after shooting at John Ashby that morning; and clearly everyone was pleased with the stylish awards. Congratulations to not only those who received an award on the day, but to all those who have improved their own personal performances over the season. It would be fair to say that this year many archers have done extremely well with sharpening up their shooting skills; and our thanks go particularly to our regular coaches – Peter Bond, Paul Barrett and Leigh Masters who have guided us with our techniques, gently pointed out the errors of our ways and praised us when we get it right. We’re sure that things will only get better. Thanks to Neville for the photo.
