Vaughan Tucker Quiz Night Raises Over £200

VaughanshootingOur quiz night on Tuesday 15th March at Carlsberg was a great success with a total of just over £200 being raised towards the funding of an AED (defibrillator) for NAC. Entries to the quiz, along with a raffle raised just over £120, whilst a donation of a fantastic £50 was received from Victoria and Lynette on behalf of Emily – Angel on our Shoulders fundraisers. A big thank you for this; and also a big thank you to our quizmaster for the night, Peter Bond, who made the evening great fun – whilst managing to really tax our brains. Also  thanks to David Quemby and Pam Joseph for organising this great  worthwhile event. Subsequent to the quiz a further anonymous donation of £30 was received –  thanks again. Vaughan Tucker was a valued member of NAC who collapsed and died of a cardiac arrest on 15th March 2015 at Cosgrove. He was a quiet witty man with a very laid back attitude to shooting with his familiar horsebow. He is sadly missed.  More about him can be found here.

NAC Open Portsmouth 2016

NAC Open Portsmouth 2016 News

Archers came from far and wide to take part in NAC’s 2016 Open Portsmouth held at John Ashby Sports Hall on Sunday 28th February 2016. Shooters from 12 clubs took part in the tournament, which was NAC’s fourth open event at Moulton. In addition to Northamptonshire – Staffordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and the West Midlands were all represented by 48 archers.  Despite a heating failure in the hall on a cold day, a good day was had by all. Some fantastic shooting at a great (but cold) venue. The results can be found here.

Sidney Cato Memorial Series – Round 1 – 6th June 2015

The new outdoor Sidney Cato Memorial Series of shoots kicked off on Saturday 6th June at Sywell. The day was quite warm, but  very gusty – which made shooting interesting. Although entrants were slightly down on the usual numbers, due to various commitments elsewhere, the day was a great success with what appears to be at least a couple of club records being set. For some, this was their first outdoor competition and it was great to see participants taking brave steps forward at the longer distances. Well done. These are the results.

The NAC held it’s Halloween Ping Taty Bogle at the Sywell range on Saturday the 1st November. The event always attract a host of members and visitors and a good time was had by all. Hot dogs and soup was the order of the day along with anything else that could be secretly stashed beneath the tables!……. The organisation of this event is probable one of the hardest in our calendar and we thank the many volunteers that took the time to make it again so successful. Our chairlady presented the prizes to the winners of the shoot and also the Pumpkin Carving Challenge and thanked all the members and guests for their support.

End of Season shoot and move to Moulton

It seems almost impossible that it is this time of year when we move indoors for our shooting. We have however, had a good summer season with favourable weather. Our last session at Sywell on Saturday 4th October was a fun shoot of Archery Crazy Golf led by Mick Lovell who did an excellent job of organizing the affair. The results are here. Wet morning weather gave way to drier weather just especially for the start of the shoot. The enjoyable game was followed by hot dogs and medal presentations for the season’s Target Days – overseen by David Stephens our Deputy-Chair. (results found here). For the first year we have also presented Novice Awards for our  promising and inspiring new archers. These went to Bailey Bridgewater, Hazel Dalley, Triv. McCarlie and Kelly Pearce. Bailey has shot well through the year and has represented NAC at some County Shoots, whilst the enthusiastic  Hazel shot in all four of our target days. Her smiles are a lesson to the older archers who get a bit frustrated when things go wrong. Triv. and Kelly have both progressed really well with their shooting and we wish them well for the up and coming indoor season. Classification badges were awarded to Ryan Boot (2nd Class), Mark Dalley (3rd Class) Pam Joseph (1st Class), Heather Major (1st Class), Triv McCarlie (3rd Class (not present)) and Beryl Tabberner (3rd Class).

And the sun shone down, but we didn’t bake.

NAC held their Annual Open Nationals Tournament at Sywell Range on Sunday 24th August, on a day that turned out to be ideal for Archery – comfortably warm and little wind. The tournaments team,  committee and other members pulled together to make the day go without a hitch and a splendid time was had by the 10 clubs represented at the shoot. Our thanks go to all who prepared for and took part in the competition, and of course our judge for the day, Sylvia Underlin. Sarah Fowler-Jardine undertook the role of Lady Paramount. It looks as if several records were broken at club and county level, but the success of the event was reflected in the positive comments passed on from our guests. The results of the day can be found here .
