On 29th July ten members of NAC completed a basic archery coaching coarse at Carlsberg Sports and Social Club. Tutored by our club coaches, Paul Barrett and Murray Ager, the day covered a whole spectrum of topics from giving safety briefings to analyzing and helping with shooting techniques – especially for beginners and have-a-go events. The day was very intensive, but very rewarding; and it is hoped further courses will be held in the not too distant future.

NAC Open 12 August 2012 – and at last the sun shone
Despite several abandoned attempts at holding an outdoor competition this year because of bad weather, Sunday 12th August proved to be a fantastic day for NAC’s 2nd Annual Open Nationals Tournament at Sywell Range. Over 40 archers took part on a beautifully sunny day and a splendid time was had by all; with several club and county records being broken or set. Along with all the hard work by many NAC members, our thanks go to Sylvia Underlin, our judge for the day, and Chris Mason of NCAS and WOAC for his advisory role in setting up the range. Not least of all we thank the archers from far and wide who attended and took part on this memorable day.
The Results from our Open on 12th August can be found here.
Club Records Update and Presentations.
Our club records have been updated today, with David Quemby and Susan Corless continuing to be our record setters in tournaments across the county. David has beaten his old York record by scoring 1106 at Wicken, whilst Susan has set new records for National, Short Metric and Windsor rounds, with scores of 364, 483 and 752 respectively.
Susan also has had the honour of being presented with our outgoing Chairman’s Trophy for her achievements last year. At the same presentation Susan was also awarded her 2nd Class GNAS Classification Badge.
252 New Rules and Badges
The committee has considered the rules for the 252 scheme and agreed that it will only be necessary to score 252 on two occasions for each distance from now on, to qualify for a badge. In addition the 15 yard badge will no longer be included in the scheme and ribbons will not be used. We have purchased a sample of the badges from Reading Archers which we will be using. The club offer a very quick turn around on orders with no minimum quantities – just a small postage charge. Some of the colours on the badges are different from those chosen for our original scheme which will be amended in due course. They can be seen online at the Reading Archers web site.Go to this page to read about the 252 scheme and how to record your scores and get your badge.
Records Roundup April 2012
Our club records have been updated today. We congratulate David Quemby for setting a new County Triple Portsmouth Gents Compound record of 1698 at the NCAS County Championships at Rothwell on the 11th March. Not only that, David earned a silver in the single round and golds in the double and triple rounds. He has also claimed new club records for the Portsmouth single and double rounds and the Stafford and Stafford Double Rounds. Susan Corless achieved a new ladies recurve club record at the Wicken Stafford Shoot. Well done.
Shootathon – 12,617 Arrows & lots being raised for Sport Relief
Members of NAC smashed their target of shooting 10,000 arrows in 24 hours at Carlsberg Sports and Social Club on 23rd/24th March. The shoot started off at 10pm on the Friday and at 4.07 pm on the Saturday the magic arrow was shot, leaving another 6 hours of aiming. At the close of play at 10pm a total of 12,617 arrows had been slammed into the targets. Early indications are that sponsorship money raised could be in excess of £1,500 to £2,000 for Sport Relief. A great effort and lots of hard work and organising by many members of the Club. Our thanks also to the many kind-hearted folk and groups who have donated to or sponsored the event.
