Safety Awareness Bulletin, The Use Of Full Carbon Arrows At the N.A.C.

To All NAC members and other club users of NAC facilities. Please read the latest information below regarding the use of full carbon arrows. We have left the original text for comparison in coloured font.

As stated below within the original posting there was a restriction on the use of full carbon arrows at the NAC. This restriction was put in place over a safety concern and at the time the committee felt they acted with the knowledge and in the best interest of the membership. However as this was brought to our attention we underwent a review of this ruling.    The committee have since taken advice from Archery GB and other sources and we have been assured that because of the latest manufacturing processes of carbon arrows the risk has been reduced considerably and as such we can authorize the use of a full carbon arrow at our facilities with immediate effect.

Dated  23rd Feb 2014,    regards IanP

[URGENT Safety Awareness message; To all members of the NAC and members of other clubs using the NAC facilities;

At a committee meeting dated the 14th November 2012 there was a debate regarding the use of full carbon arrows and possible injuries. As a result the committee elected to ban their use at ALL NAC venues.

Although these minutes are published on our Members page it has come to our attention that FULL Carbon Arrows are being used at our venues and we have therefore decided to put out this memo and to ask any archer using this type of arrow to cease forthwith.

Recently we had put together a set of Shooting rules covering our venues  and we are embarrassed to say that we failed to highlight this issue at the time of publication. We shall therefore “Update” our “Rules” as soon as we are able.

We apologies for any inconvenience and hope that all members understand that safety is paramount].

Regards, IanP

The Pete Kenny Memorial Shoot 2014

20140208_124631

Saturday 8th February was the day the N.A.C. held it’s second Pete Kenny memorial shoot which was a Worcester round held at our indoor venue, John Ashby, at Moulton College. Our resident line judge and events organizer  Dave Quemby again took overall control for the day and I’m told he did a good job for us all.The results have been verified and Dave Q has already e-mailed the results to all members. I have also been told that participants enjoyed the shoot and look forward to the next event in our calendar. I myself was unavailable on the day so any pictures I post will have been forwarded from our Bez for the website.( thank you Bez).

Surprisingly enough the 9.00 am start didn’t diminish the enthusiasm as (I believe that Steve and Chris even made it on time).Oh and a big thank you to all who assisted in the set-up and set-down of the equipment.

Those members who recently joined the NAC and wish to find out more about Pete Kenny then please go to www.northamptonarchery.co.uk/about-nac/history/2000-onwards/

Boxing Day “Ping Tatty Bogle”, at Sywell

DSC_0168

With the lead up to Christmas being so wet and wild it was touch and go as to whether the Boxing day “ping” would take place. With Christmas day being so fine and Boxing day early morning being so gloomy some crazy archers managed to crawl out of there warm beds and venture out to Sywell instead of shopping for bargains in Harrods.

The picture above shows the hardened few that managed the challenge and who was rewarded with a little sunshine, tomato and chicken soups, bread rolls  and of course the cake that wasn’t cut at the Christmas party.

Although it was very wet underfoot, conditions actually improved as the shoot went on. So a big thanks go to      Steve (T)  for showing us his cooking skills, Dave (T) for showing us how precise  he is when using a carving knife (you should have left your bow at home Dave)and everyone else for just turning up and enjoying the occasion. Oh and the winners (almost forgot) Juniors, Bailey (Bridgewater) …………..and Seniors, Mick (Lovell).. Pictures of the event are now in our Gallery section………………………….IanP.

A response to the 65th Anniversary Party at Moulton College.

Pam has asked me to forward this response;

Saturday evening we celebrated our 65th anniversary of the N.A.C. at Moulton College where our members gathered to share the evening with both “old”  (ex members) and “new” (present)  members of our club. Amongst the gathering were very disquingished guests from our “past” People like- Mrs Cato and her family, Mr and Mrs Knight, Mr and Mrs Bull. and Pete Kenny’s family,  along with others who are just as important to the club; some of whom had been founder members of the club, which started way back in 1948. Some of our old members could not be there in person but I’m sure they were there in “spirit” to share the accasion with us. It goes without saying how good it was for founder members, old and new members, along with their family and friends to share the evening with us as it was a momentus occasion in the history of the club.

I thank you all so much for attending and hope we will see all of you again at sometime in the future.

Just a few more thanks for making the night so special go to… Dave and Heather Major who arranged the DVD slide show that was shown throughout the night showing some fabulous old photographs of the early members and locations of the club from 1948 to 2013.  It was interesting to see how the fashion has changed over the years, and I know Dave and Heather will be adding more to it, which will be published on our web pages, I know I’ll be looking forward to seeing that!!

Also to Sue Bond who made up the loverly “members” book for us to sign on the night. If you haven’t seen it make an effort to too as it if wonderful.  Over the next few weeks we will take the book to our shooting sessions so that members can add to it and maybe place photos within it of the occasion.

Another thank you to our club photographer Ian Pateman who has placed a set of pictures of the event within our Gallery section of the website.

Some words from one of our members… “a massive shout out to our juniors for their dancing lessons”………and the way they showed us all how to have a good time. Did any of you notice the balloons? Yes? They were our “Club” colours, that took some doing……….hmmmmm and the cake, well it didn’t get cut so we will take it along to the Boxing day shoot at Sywell.

So far the feed back has been very good, it appears that all members enjoyed themselves. The food was arranged by the staff at Moulton College and I have already sent a big thank you to them all on our behalf.

Just one more thing I would like to say is, what on earth is going to happen during the next 65 years as a club??  We are still growing and going from strength to strength. We are planning more “starter courses” during 2014 and we are increasing our “coaches” as we know we are a little lacking in that area with the speed in which the club has grown. I am proud to be the Chair-person of the club and would like to thank all the members who have assisted in our success.

A big thanks to the committee members who have shown me so much support. All in all we are a club trying to please all members which is an impossible task but we strive to achieve.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

Pam, N.A.C. Chair.
